One of the biggest potential trade targets on the market this year is Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto, and Miami seems to be aggressively shopping him right now. The star backstop’s agent indicated this season that his client would be willing to sign an extension in Miami, but if that didn’t happen then he would want to be traded. Well, according to reports the extension he was seeking was comparable to the mega contract Buster Posey signed back in 2013. Realmuto is a good player to be sure, and the landscape has certainly changed in the five years since the Posey contract was signed, but I can understand the Marlins balking at that.
