Minor League trademark hints at possible PawSox move to Worcester

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — What’s in a name?

For fans of the Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate, it may be a hint of where the team might play in the future.

Minor League Baseball has applied for three trademarks on the word “WooSox,” a name that hints the Pawtucket Red Sox may be seriously considering a move to Worcester.

Masslive.com reported the trademark applications were filed July 26 by Robert Fountain, deputy general counsel for Minor League Baseball, through a Deleware based Limited Liability Company, created earlier in the day.

Fountain told the Providence Journal on Friday that the trademark applications were precautionary and the team had no informed the league of any intent to move.
