Red Sox relief pitcher Matt Barnes entered last night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th inning with a growing sense of confidence.
The lanky right-hander dismissed some earlier misgivings in the bullpen and dispatched the Phillies over two scoreless innings to pick up the victory in a 6-5 interleague win at Fenway Park.
Barnes earned a career-high fifth relief win along with a season-tying five strikeouts in two innings.
“I felt pretty good but ironically when I was warming up earlier in the game in the bullpen I really didn’t feel that good,” said Barnes.
