BOSTON -- J.D. Martinez belted a first-pitch leadoff home run in the second inning, giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead against the Orioles at Fenway Park Sunday afternoon.
The homer, Martinez's 14th of the season, came on a 96-mph fastball from Orioles right-hander David Hess, who was called up before the game to make his second Major League appearance.
Martinez tucked his shot just beyond Pesky's Pole in right field. He entered the game with a 1.116 OPS in 21 games at Fenway Park this season.
