BOSTON -- Sandy Leon set off a late-night celebration at home plate when he belted a three-run walk-off homer to left with one out in the bottom of the 12th against Pirates lefty Antonio Bastardo to give the Red Sox a 3-0 win on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
It had been a game dominated by pitching, first with a compelling duel between new Red Sox ace Chris Sale and promising Pirates right-hander Jameson Taillon.
In the end, the Red Sox broke through. Jackie Bradley Jr. started the winning rally by reaching base for the third time on the night with a one-out walk against Bastardo and stole second.
