Second baseman Dustin Pedroia was zeroing in on breaking his own franchise record of 98 consecutive errorless games heading into the weekend. As impressive as his most recent and past defensive surges sound, his highest flawless streak is still barely half of the all-time major league record — 186 games, by Placido Polanco — for second basemen. With the exception of first baseman Kevin Youkilis and third baseman Rico Petrocelli, none of the Red Sox’ most consistent defenders come close to touching the all-time MLB records for most consecutive errorless games.
