CLEVELAND — Let’s make one thing clear: The Red Sox didn’t merely do right by John Farrell yesterday. They did the right thing for the organization, too.
Last week, Farrell completed the last of three rounds of chemotherapy after being diagnosed in August with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and was given a “clean bill of health,” according to a statement released by the team. All along, new president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said he would address Farrell’s future only after he was healthy, and so, on Saturday, he phoned Farrell to say he wanted him to manage the Sox again next season.
