Kyle Kendrick to start for Red Sox on Thursday

Nineteen months after he last pitched in the big leagues, Kyle Kendrick will be back in the majors to start for the Red Sox on Thursday.

Manager John Farrell announced tonight that Kendrick will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to spot start in place of injured knuckleballer Steven Wright. Kendrick last pitched in the big leagues in 2015 when he had a 6.32 ERA in 27 starts for Colorado. Kendrick impressed as a non-roster invitee to big league camp this spring, and he'll join the Red Sox for this week's series finale against the Orioles.

“That was the recommendation of the staff in Pawtucket," Farrell said.
