Justin Upton grand slam helps Tigers defeat Red Sox in four-hour marathon

With the bases loaded for a second consecutive inning, manager John Farrell opted to go the matchup game, and turned to Heath Hembree to get the Red Sox out of the jam.

This time, though, it didn’t work out so well.

An inning before, Drew Pomeranz had loaded the bases with no outs and was able to work his way out of the mess unscathed. But in the fifth, Pomeranz loaded them again, and with one out, Hembree relieved him.

Justin Upton greeted Hembree by taking him deep for a grand slam, clanging one off Pesky’s Pole.
