Justin Turner’s tenure in Boston lasted just one season, but heading into the offseason, he hoped to extend it.
During his introductory press conference with the Toronto Blue Jays, Turner touched on his journey through free agency, including an initial desire to re-sign with the Red Sox.
“I think as time went on it was appearing to be less and less likely [to return to Boston],” Turner told reporters. “Right when the season ended, I assumed that it would be a no-brainer that I would try to work something out and come back.”
Turner noted that the Red Sox’ front office shakeup likely played a role in his eventual departure for Toronto.
