“Good people down there,” Masterson said of his recent stint in the minors. “It’s nice, relaxing, it brings a little joy when you’re struggling through some stuff to get back into it.”
Being sent to the PawSox to rehab was more of a penalty than a reward, but it wasn’t any worse than his first two months in the majors this season, when the right-hander struggled just to throw strikes. When the Red Sox put him on the 15-day disabled list on May 13, he had a 6.37 ERA.
Six weeks removed from his previous big league start, Masterson took the mound for the Red Sox yesterday appearing refreshed.
