BALTIMORE -- The Red Sox used eight relievers in their 13-inning, 6-5 loss to the Orioles Tuesday night, but Junichi Tazawa remained in the dugout.
Afterward, interim manager Torey Lovullo announced that Tazawa had been shut down for the remainder of the 2015 season.
He allowed four runs in his most recent outing on Sept. 11 and has a 9.22 ERA over his last 15 games since Aug. 2. He began the year with a 2.60 ERA through his first 46 games.
“I want to make this perfectly clear: There is no injury, there is nothing behind this other than us giving him a rest,” Lovullo said.
