Just a few months into the Grateful Dead's newest experiment, which involves using seven-time Grammy Award winner John Mayer in the role of the late Jerry Garcia, reviewers have been celebrating the old band's new sound.
This summer, Mayer, the Connecticut native who had a brief stint at Berklee College of Music before soaring to stardom in the early 2000s, will be playing in Fenway Park as part of the newly-formed Dead and Company, which also features original Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. The group stopped by Worcester late last year to play a show at the DCU Center and was praised in a Globe review as "potent enough to enrapture the faithful and convert the skeptical.
