FORT MYERS, Fla. — Red Sox chairman Tom Werner appeared to swing the barn door wide open Friday morning on the subject of selling the team. Then he seemed to shut it.
“It’s not going to be forever,” Werner said of his time running the team with John Henry and co., “but we’re very proud of what we’ve done and yet we’re hungry to continue to do better.”
Both Henry and Werner clarified later.
“I know every few years we have to swat down rumors that we’re perhaps sellers,” Henry said. “But that’s just not something that we — we talk about how long can we do this, not when should we stop.
