FORT MYERS -- The Red Sox don’t begin playing spring training games until a week from Friday, but manager John Farrell is already eyeing Dustin Pedroia as the club’s leadoff hitter again in 2017.
“Yeah, that's the current view,” Farrell said Sunday from JetBlue Park. “Pedey was exceptional in the leadoff spot last year. Maybe a spot in the order that he hasn't felt as comfortable in years past. That's a conversation that Pedey and I will have again.”
Pedroia has traditionally been a two-hitter, but moved into the leadoff spot last August and hit .363 with an .
