MIAMI -- The Red Sox will be without manager John Farrell for Tuesday night’s game against the Marlins.
The 53-year-old had hernia surgery on Monday in Detroit on the recommendations of his doctor after he said he injured himself while tossing an equipment bag during last week’s series in New York. He was walking with a heavy limp on Tuesday afternoon, showed up to Marlins park for less than two hours and then went back to the team hotel before the 7:10 p.m. start.
Bench coach Torey Lovullo was managing the team. Farrell said before the game he had spoken to Lovullo about what he wanted to see.
