John Farrell needs to save somebody to start a potential Game 4, but there’s no Game 4 without a win in Game 3.
The Red Sox manager said on Sunday morning that he would like to stay away from Rick Porcello and Chris Sale in the third game of the American League Division Series against the Houston Astros.
Doug Fister is starting Game 3, and ideally Porcello would start Game 4 and Sale would be on the mound in Game 5.
“That means things are in check and guys are pitching deep enough into a game to bridge to one another,” Farrell said.
