John Farrell disappointed in David Ortiz' lack of hustle

David Ortiz wasn't removed from the game Saturday after jogging down the first-base line in the sixth inning.

But that doesn't mean Red Sox manager John Farrell excused his lack of hustle.

Ortiz appeared to give up on the play after hitting a grounder to the mound. Tigers pitcher Alfredo Simon misplayed the ball, at which point Ortiz began to sprint to first base. Too little, too late, with Simon recovering in time to get the ball to first baseman Alex Avila.

"Well, when he drops the ball, all of a sudden (Ortiz) shifts gears and takes off again," Farrell said.
