Longtime Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall died Saturday at age 87.
A two-time All Star for the Red Sox, Piersall played center field alongside Ted Williams during the 1950s.
He played in 931 games for Boston and spent eight of his 17 seasons in the majors with the Red Sox.
Piersall, who grew up a Red Sox fan as a child in Waterbury, Conn., was elected to the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2010.
Known primarily for his defensive prowess, Piersall holds the Sox record for most hits in a nine-inning game from his 6-for-6 effort on June 10, 1953.
