The family of Jerry Remy released a statement through the Red Sox Monday, offering thanks to team ownership, to fans, and to the doctors who helped treat him.
Remy died Saturday at 68 after battling lung cancer since 2008. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Phoebe, and three children.
Remy, a Somerset native, spent more than 30 years broadcasting Red Sox games after his playing career ended in the 1980s.
His family called the opportunity to play for the Red Sox “a dream come true.”
The full statement:
“First and foremost, we want to thank the Boston Red Sox and NESN for their kindness and compassion during this devastating time, especially John and Linda Henry, Tom Werner, Sam Kennedy, and Sean McGrail.
