There was a time, not so long ago, when the toughest division in baseball was not a topic of discussion. It was a forgone conclusion. The American League East was the best of the best.
Those were the days of a dynasty in New York, a broken Red Sox curse, and a scrappy homegrown core in Tampa.
In June, when Sports on Earth ranked “The Best MLB Divisions In History,” the story listed the highest aggregate winning percentages of five-team divisions in non-strike years.
Four of the top six spots came from the AL East between 1998-2013.
