Following the recent revelation regarding his 2022 attempted suicide, Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran and his parents offered official statements regarding the matter.
Duran said in a newly-released Netflix series, “The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox,” that he tried to kill himself with a rifle amid the pressure of being a professional athlete. As Duran notes in the documentary series, the loaded rifle didn’t go off, sparing his life.
On Tuesday, a day after the news first emerged, Duran provided a quote about his admission through the team.
“Talking about this wasn’t easy, but it felt important,” Duran said in the statement.
