Exceptional offense from a catcher is much like the pickle that comes on the side of your sandwich. If you don’t get it, it won’t ruin the meal altogether, but it’s an appreciated supplement. So far in 2024, Connor Wong has performed like the metaphorical side pickle for the Red Sox. While Wong won’t qualify for the league leaderboards due to a lack of at-bats, he’d rank among the top of the league in both batting average and wOBA if he had the playing time to qualify. He’s also improved in just about every offensive category.
The most important column in the above chart is the first.
