Injured reliever Carson Smith's absence felt in Red Sox's loss to Indians

CLEVELAND -- If Junichi Tazawa appeared helpless Wednesday night as he turned and watched Mike Napoli's go-ahead solo home run land in the left-field bleachers in the Cleveland Indians' 7-6 victory at Progressive Field, imagine how fellow Boston Red Sox reliever Carson Smith must have felt wherever he was in Fort Myers, Florida.

It was a situation -- tie game, seventh inning, Tazawa having pitched the day before -- that screamed for Smith, and precisely the reason the Red Sox acquired the 26-year-old right-hander in a December trade with the Seattle Mariners.
