PROVIDENCE, R.I. — An economist hired by House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello to consult on a proposal for a new Pawtucket Red Sox stadium in Providence is also a consultant for the Baseball Commissioner's Office.
The owners of the Triple-A franchise of the Boston Red Sox are asking for about $120 million in subsidies over 30 years.
Mattiello hired Smith College economics professor Andrew Zimbalist to consult for $225 per hour to evaluate the proposal.
Zimbalist on Tuesday says he has worked as a consultant for the commissioner's office since 2005. The commissioner oversees some areas of the minor leagues.
