ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Brock Holt looked hurt, playing much of Friday night’s game against the Rays with a limp.
But he pressed on, filling in at second base for the injured Dustin Pedroia and making an on-the-run play to help keep the Rays scoreless in the ninth inning of a tie game. In the 10th, Holt delivered the go-ahead single.
He whacked an opposite-field single to left field that scored Mookie Betts, who had been standing on second following a double, and led the Red Sox to a 4-3 win in 10 innings.
Running around first, Holt took a hard turn for second on the play and was caught in a rundown and ruled out when he stepped out of the baseline.
