TORONTO — Momentum was there for the taking in Rogers Centre yesterday afternoon, with the locals cautiously celebrating Canada Day while awaiting the fate of their beloved Blue Jays, who had lost the first two of a four-game set to the last-place Red Sox.
Even on a day when trusted Canadian icon Don Cherry threw out the first pitch, it was New Jersey native Rick Porcello who gave them the most to celebrate on their special holiday. He allowed five runs in the first inning, two more in the second and never got a chance to pitch the third, making his shortest start in two years.
