FORT MYERS -- The competition to fill the unofficial vacancy for Eduardo Rodriguez' spot in the rotation is on.
Yesterday, candidate Henry Owens threw two ill-advised curveballs, one for a walk and the next one for a two-run double that led to an early Marlins lead that held up in the 11-8 victory.
With Roenis Elias and Steven Wright also vying for the job, Owens will be ready to focus on strengths from here on out.
“Probably not the right pitch in those two at-bats, throwing the curveball,” said Owens, who allowed four runs and two hits in his 2-2/3 innings.
