The improbable Red Sox’ three-game scoreless streak began on Friday with Rich Hill, a 35-year-old who hadn’t thrown a shutout in 10 years.
It extended to Craig Breslow, a 35-year-old who had never started a major league game until Saturday. It made its way through the Red Sox’ makeshift bullpen, surviving Matt Barnes’ fringy elbow and Noe Ramirez’s funky side-armed motion.
It was handed to Henry Owens, a 25-year-old who had only once made a scoreless major league start, but was dazzling on Sunday afternoon. And it finished with Robbie Ross Jr., a smiling left-hander from Kentucky who has persevered through three separate demotions to the minor leagues this season.
