FORT MYERS — At this point, Catcher Christian Vazquez is more likely to throw a strike to second base than Henry Owens is to throw one to the plate.
If the Red Sox are ever going to have confidence when they turn to Owens — who has perpetual control problems — something has to change.
Owens seems to concur.
The 24-year-old lefty is still positioned somewhere on a thin depth chart, and is considering ways to make his wind-up and stretch work more similarly after a 13-0 road loss to the Twins.
“I was talking to a few players about that the other day,” said Owens, who struggled on the road with one Red Sox split-squad team while Chris Sale dominated at home for the other.
