Everybody knows about Henry Owens’ changeup, a pitch so deceiving that Red Sox veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan swung wildly over it during a simulated game in spring training and immediately proclaimed it a major-league caliber changeup.
But can the left-hander command his low-90s fastball well enough to set up his out-pitch? The Red Sox are interested in finding out.
Manager John Farrell casually announced that Owens, the 19th-ranked prospect in baseball prior to the season, according to MLB.com, and left-hander Brian Johnson will join the big league rotation at some point soon.
“All that is on the horizon,” Farrell said.
