PHILADELPHIA -- Hector Velazquez is back.
His major league debut was a disaster against the Oakland A’s in May, when he allowed six runs, including three homers. But he’s done nothing but dominate Triple-A hitters, holding a remarkable 1.29 ERA while allowing just 32 hits in 49 innings.
Velazquez was recalled from Pawtucket on Wednesday, presumably to add bullpen depth this time, as infielder Deven Marrero was optioned back down.
The Red Sox needed a fresh arm in the bullpen after relievers were used for six innings on Tuesday night and 22-u2153 innings over five games during the homestand.
