MASHANTUCKET, Conn. — There’s always fresh cause for optimism in the mind of Hanley Ramirez, the Red Sox beleaguered designated hitter who has posted two of his worst career seasons in the last three years.
Not his recent 34th birthday, nor the Red Sox’ signing of Mitch Moreland to play first base, nor the team’s very public and persistent interest in free agent J.D. Martinez to be the full-time DH has stopped Ramirez from brimming with excitement and confidence about his future with the organization.
“You just got to hit,” Ramirez said Saturday from the Red Sox’ Winter Weekend at Foxwoods Casino.
