Hanley out with wrist contusion; X-rays negative

BOSTON -- Red Sox slugger Hanley Ramirez was drilled on the right wrist by a pitch from Yankees right-hander Sonny Gray in the bottom of the first inning on Thursday night at Fenway Park and had to be removed from the game. X-rays taken moments later were negative, revealing merely a contusion and allowing the Sox to breathe a sigh of relief. There didn't seem to be any intent with the pitch Gray threw, which was a 93.6-mph fastball a bit inside.

Ramirez went down the first-base line shaking his hand and hoping the pain would wear off enough to allow him to stay in the game, but it wasn't to be.
