MIAMI — David Hale had a solid outing against the Miami Marlins. He just couldn't contain slugger Giancarlo Stanton.
Hale pitched six innings and allowed four runs — on Stanton's two-run double and two-run homer — in the Colorado Rockies' 4-1 loss to the Marlins on Saturday.
"It's just being smart about what you give him," Hale said.
Hale (2-1) gave up Stanton's double in the first inning and then the homer off of a changeup in the sixth as the Rockies lost their fourth straight.
"That changeup was a terrible pitch," Hale said. "I have to get that in the dirt.
