Green Monster inspiring Travis Shaw in quest to be Red Sox regular

The Green Monster has a way of inspiring some left-handed hitters, and it’s working on Travis Shaw.

Adrian Gonzalez, the left-handed hitting first baseman who showed up to Fenway Park in 2011 and started hitting everything toward opposite-field, set career highs that year with 213 hits, a .338 average and a .957 OPS.

Shaw might not be the same hitter, but he’s starting to resemble Gonzalez, the way his inside-out left-handed swing has been poking balls off the left-field wall this week. He lifted an opposite-field homer to left field on Wednesday night, then came a few feet from doing it again on Tuesday, instead settling for a double.
