Boston College slugger and Lexington native Chris Shaw was taken by the San Francisco Giants with the 31st overall pick in last night’s MLB draft.
Shaw became BC’s highest draftee since catcher Tony Sanchez was taken with the fourth overall pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009.
A first baseman and outfielder, Shaw hit .319 with 11 home runs and 43 RBI in 40 games as a junior this season. The left-handed hitter has 23 homers and 107 RBI for the Eagles.
Shaw, a former Herald All-Scholastic, joins catcher Matt Pare as Boston College players in the Giants organization.
