The Red Sox bested the Orioles on the strength of three home runs, including the 200th of J.D. Martinez's career. That two-run blast to left-center, in the opening inning, travled 416 feet and was Martinez's first since April 17 (71 plate appearances), his longest dong drought in five years.
The Orioles wiped out that 2-0 lead on Rio Ruiz's two-run homer against Hector Velázquez (3-3-2-1-0, 46). After Xander Bogaerts went deep to give Boston a 3-2 edge, Hanser Alberto's homer off Marcus Walden tied the game at 3-3. The Red Sox took a 6-3 advantage in the fifth, thanks to Mitch Moreland's 10th homer of the season.
