FORT MYERS, Fla. -- All things considered, Blake Swihart was lucky.
One day after taking a foul ball off the chin of his face mask, Swihart remained sore but didn't exhibit any of the concussive symptoms typically associated with similar injuries. The young Boston Red Sox catcher was cleared to continue baseball activities and is expected to play Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins, according to manager John Farrell.
If anything, Swihart said, the injury accelerated the delivery of a new mouthpiece. Swihart always wears a mouth guard behind the plate but was set to have a new one shipped to him before the start of the season.
