ATLANTA — John Farrell finally exploded.
The Red Sox manager completely lost his cool on a hot tonight in Atlanta. And as it’s been with most of the ugliness involving the Red Sox this season, it would be hard to blame Farrell for this one, an anger-filled tirade directed at the umpire late in the Red Sox’ 5-2 loss to the Braves.
First base umpire Larry Vanover had blown a call early in the game when Mookie Betts had clearly beaten out an infield single, and Vanover ruled Betts to be out. Having already used his challenge, Farrell ran out to argue, got into a heated argument with Vanover and finally walked off the field clearly dissatisfied.
