Eighth wonder: Koji Uehara's continued success will be October key for Red Sox

BOSTON -- For good reason, "Win One (More) For Papi" is about to become the rallying cry around Fenway Park. But as the playoffs beckon, David Ortiz isn't even the most important 40-something on the Boston Red Sox roster.

Yeah, you read that right.

It took only 10 pitches thrown over a span of about three minutes Friday night for Koji Uehara to mow down three New York Yankees hitters in the eighth inning. And since it occurred while the Red Sox were leading by five runs en route to a 7-4 victory that preserved their two-game lead in the American League East, the significance of the 41-year-old right-hander's accomplishment might have went unnoticed.
