TORONTO -- It’s no consolation, but at least Edinson Volquez and the Kansas City Royals got an apology.
According to Volquez, home plate umpire Dan Iassogna said he was sorry to Royals catcher Salvador Perez for what Issaogna later determined was an incorrect call on a crucial full-count pitch to Jose Bautista in the sixth inning of the Blue Jays’ 7-1 win over the Royals in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series on Wednesday.
Pitching with a chance to clinch a spot in the World Series, Volquez was cruising along, his only mistake a solo home run he allowed to Chris Colabello, until he lost command in the decisive sixth inning.
