Dustin Pedroia starting at second, as usual

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia is set to make his 11th consecutive Opening Day start for the Red Sox. That’s the longest streak for a Sox player since Jim Rice started every Opening Day from 1976-89.

Only Bobby Doerr, with 13, has made more Opening Day starts at second base for the Red Sox. The last player with more consecutive Opening Day starts at one position was Carl Yastrzemski with 12 in left field from 1961-72.

Doerr, Rice, and Yastrzemski all were elected to the Hall of Fame.

Pedroia has more years to play before that conversation starts.
