Dustin Pedroia has played in six straight games (including a doubleheader in Anaheim) since returning from the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain, so the Red Sox are giving him a day off.
Pedroia, who is 1-for-23 since his return but has appeared to make much better contact in the Red Sox' most recent series against the Astros, was on the bench for the series finale on Thursday night while Brock Holt took over at second base and hit in the two-spot.
"Rotating Brock through multiple postions," Sox manager John Farrell said. "Pedey has played all but four innings since coming back so a down day for him.
