Dustin Pedroia lasted only five innings in the Red Sox' game against the Texas Rangers on Thursday night.
Pedroia was replaced at second base by Josh Rutledge to start the sixth inning after the Sox removed him for precautionary reasons due to left knee soreness. It wasn't clear how he hurt himself.
According to the club, manager John Farrell made the decision to pull him and Pedroia is day-to-day.
Pedroia had arthroscopic surgery to clean up the meniscus in his left knee last October and hurt his left leg when Manny Machado slid into him at second base in April.
