PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Dozens of people have protested ahead of a meeting where the new owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox are making a pitch to the state for a ballpark in downtown Providence.
Principal owner James Skeffington and co-owner Larry Lucchino, president of the Boston Red Sox, are due to present their proposal Monday before a meeting of the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission, the state agency that owns the land they want to build on.
Around 50 people who oppose the plan gathered before the meeting. Some said they were opposed to using public money to fund it.
