For the time being, the Red Sox’ revolving door at third base seems to have stopped on the unlikeliest of candidates: light-hitting utility man Deven Marrero.
Back at the hot corner for the third day in a row, Marrero is basically a fifth-string option who’s moved to the top of the depth chart because of injury and poor performance. He’s been given an opportunity, and with doubles in his past two games – plus reliable defense, which had been missing at the position – Marrero keeps getting chances to play while Pablo Sandoval, Brock Holt and Marco Hernandez are on the disabled list.
