Not even the trade of Shane Victorino could open a roster spot for Jackie Bradley Jr. with the Red Sox.
Bradley is putting together a sensational season in Triple-A, batting .304 with a .377 on-base percentage and nine home runs. Yet the Sox bypassed him for Rusney Castillo, who was called up Monday to take Victorino's spot in the lineup after the latter was traded to the Los Angeles Angels for utility infielder Josh Rutledge.
"Jackie is doing well," general manager Ben Cherington said. "He's made a real adjustment.
