CLEVELAND — The premier battery of the 2013 Red Sox might be the final push the Cubs need to get past the Indians.
Jon Lester’s available in relief for the Cubs in Game 7, just as former Red Sox pitcher John Lackey is. Particularly if Lester gets in the game, that could mean catcher David Ross is involved as well.
“Definitely he could be used in relief,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said of Lester after Game 6 on Tuesday. “Regarding closing, we'll see how the game plays out. But Jon will be available tomorrow.”
The Cubs have lefty Aroldis Chapman to protect a potential lead, but he could be used earlier in the game — and just how many outs Chapman has in him is unclear.
