Red Sox starter David Price is dealing with a cracked fingernail on the middle finger of his pitching hand, manager John Farrell explained today, a few hours before the finale of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park.
Price left his start against the Angels on Saturday after throwing 103 pitches over six innings. His departure wouldn’t have raised many eyebrows had it not been for his consulting with Farrell and pitching coach Carl Willis in the dugout after the top of the sixth inning. Price then made cryptic statements after the 6-3 loss about “a lot of stuff going on,” although he assured the media he wasn’t referring to his elbow or a blister.
